Synthetic Division

Synthetic Division is an alternative method to long division for dividing a binomial into a polynomial. It is quite useful since many individuals find it to be a faster and more efficient means of finding a solution.

Steps For Performing Synthetic Division

1. Set up the Synthetic Division problem, making sure to add the zero of the binomial into the box at the top of the equation.

2. Bring down the leading coefficient down to the bottom row

3.  Multiply the value in the bottom row by the value in the box

4. Add the column created in the previous step

5. Repeat the process until the entire bottom row is complete

6. Write out the answer, beginning the degree one less than that which is present in the original equation
